WORKSHOP: Queer Archiving Urgency

Fri 27 June 2025
Grands Carmes — Café — 20:00

Join us for a workshop centered around the urgency of compiling our own digital archives to authentically document the culture and stories of our queer, often marginalized or overlooked, communities.

David Aaron Swartz

Queer Archiving Urgency: A Manifesto,Tutorial, and Scanning Session — 90'

The opening presentation in this session will weave together elements of the historical background of queer archiving, current archival theory, the role of technology within digital archiving today, and an overview of a few highlighted archival projects. Then following a brief tutorial of the protocol and best practices of digital archiving, the workshop will open up into a live scanning session (with all software/equipment provided) for participants to engage in contributing in a hands-on way directly to the festival’s living archive!

This session is being facilitated by David Aaron Swartz — a lifelong professional within the arts and culture sector (most significantly in the music industry) and an active member of Berlin’s queer club culture community for the past decade, which has brought him into his current chapter focused on archiving and exhibition-making practices along with academic pursuits around culture and queerness within the social sciences.
