Biography
Manu Sol Mateo studied fashion design at the Istituto Marangoni in Paris, France and visual arts at La Esmeralda of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes in Mexico. He regularly performs at the HUS gallery in Paris, at the “couture” cabarets of the Atelier Caraco where he works as a seamster and draftsman, at Le p’tit Vélo traditional French restaurant, at Le Lapin Agile, legendary Parisian cabaret and other artistic events and galleries such as EOF and the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris in Montmartre and the jewelry workshops of Van Clef & Arpels.
In Mexico he has been performing since 2012 with his company Las suculentas in a home theater, set up in the former workshop of Mexican photographer Manuel Álvarez Bravo. He has also collaborated several times with the company El festín and La eroteca, and designed the costumes for Arqueologías del Placer, a dance project created by Azhareel Sierra. He also presented his work at Hilario Galguera gallery, Biquini Wax gallery and Museo Júmex in Mexico during an exhibition that related performance and object art curated by Mauricio Limón. He presented the piece created for that exhibition also at the Temporada Alta international theater festival in Lima, Peru in 2023 and has performed several times at the Delirium in Avignon, during the Avignon international theater festival. One of his costumes is present in the exhibition “Cabarets!” at the Centre National du Costume et de la Scène in Moulins, France. He performed at the Jeu de Paume museum in Paris and at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature. He also participated on the Jacques Audiard film Emilia Pérez as a costumer and singer.
