Biography
Anthe Hermans (1994, she/her) and Lander Hermans (1996, he/him) are two Belgian artists living and working together in Brussels.
Anthe is a multidisciplinary artist interweaving video, objects, textile and photography into installations and small set-ups that create an inner world. With these immersive installations she explores topics around love, violence and resistance in personal and collective memory. As a strategy, she often uses speculative fabulation, reenactments, embodiment and joy.
After having obtained her degree in Fine Arts at Sint Lucas Antwerp (2017), she studied ‘Queer fragility and resilience’ at Summer Academy Salzburg (2022). Recently, she finished the socio-political advanced research master in art and design in Antwerp (2024). Some of her work has recently been shown at Beursschouwburg, Het Bos and Frans Masereel Centre and will show at SECONDroom.
Lander is a performer and writer exploring a queer mix of social dynamics, activism and entertainment through the form of voice recordings, videos, costumes and visual poems. His work has been shown on Kiosk Radio (The Morning Show) and Beursschouwburg. He performed an iteration of ‘A Howl from Brussels’ at Strangelove Festival (Het Bos).
Trained as a mathematician, he is currently completing a PhD in pure mathematics at the University of Antwerp.
Together they organise ‘Anaesthesia night’, a series of evenings experimenting with the enchanting and soothing capabilities of wordswordswords, whether you understand them or not, and how to (queerly) express them.
